PIXL VISN Instructor Jonathan Symmonds nominated for VES award
Jonathan Symmonds, Animation instructor at PIXL VISN, has been nominated for a VES Award for his work on the season finale of the 5th season of Game of Thrones. He is taking a short break from his work on the current season of the series to attend the 14th annual VES awards in Los Angeles this week. The Award, presented by the Visual Effects Society, is a tremendous honour within the Visual Effects community and we are very excited for Jonathan.
The VES Awards, a yearly event hosted by the Visual Effects Society (VES), celebrates the amazing artistry and innovation in film, animation, and video games. The ceremony gives recognition to the artists, VFX supervisors and VFX producers who work behind the scenes to bring their work to life.
The Game of Thrones leads the broadcast field with 9 nominations this year and also has the most overall nominations, more than Star Wars The Force Awakens, which is the leader in the feature film category.
When digital creatures perform alongside real life actors, animators must not only make their creature look realistic, but also interact with the real life actor so we believe they are together in the same world. This scene, up for nomination, serves as a great example of the process done well.
PIXOMONDO takes us behind the scenes to show us how they bring the dragons to life in the Game of Thrones in this video.
